17 February - Glasgow to Stirling Castle
Our lunch stop was the Falkirk Wheel, a modern solution to raising a canal boat 35 meters from the Forth Canal to the Clyde Ship Canal. The mechanism is so efficient, that the cost in electricity is £10.00 a day.
We were unable to tour the William Wallace Monument due to shortened winter hours. Fortunately those hours did not apply to Stirling Castle.
We toured Sterling Castle listening to descriptions of the various buildings through headphones, which means I must rely on my memory, and since I very seldom do that I suggest you visit the link Sterling Castle for a complete description of the buildings.
This was the first time I was able to link places with people I have read about and it had a profound effect on me. It is a cliche, but it fits this situation - history came alive for me.
